The event reunites 12 artists who exhibited the now-closed Charlene 's Gallery Ten, which was located at the site. Several of the artists provide demonstrations.
Joe Hernandez of Illinois, who initiated ArtFest in 2000, is returning to demonstrate firing raku pottery. Ray Kapfamer of Madison will paint pastels, and Chris Meissner of Milwaukee will demonstrate the cold-wax method of encaustic painting.
Other participating artists are Anne Nikolai Kloss of Waukesha, with her beaded jewelry; Norm Knott, Rockford, Ill., rhinestone-encrusted assemblages; Kris Franzke, Milwaukee, mosaics; Denny Moutray, Gills Rock, photography; Shannon Molter, Milwaukee, books, bags and dog bowls; Dee Santorini, Rockford, Ill., raku pottery; Mark Haberle, West Allis, oil paintings; Marcia Nickols, Door County, paper collages; and Sue Donohoo of SooHoo Designs, Baileys Harbor, wearable art.
New at ArtFest this year is the food tent provided by Bayside Bakery and Cafe, serving sandwiches and made-from-scratch bakery. Box lunches can be made up to order.
Gills Rock Coffee will be open for extended hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering specialty coffee drinks and showcasing its first-prize-winning Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie. The coffee shop also features the artwork of Nickols inside.

Gohr visited the festival Saturday and captured the images above.The price of gold touched $1,420 an ounce last week, a 3?-month high, as escalating tensions in the Middle East, volatile currency markets and renewed demand for jewelry in China and India pushed prices higher.
Gold has rebounded 15 percent to $1,396 an ounce since sinking to $1,212, its lowest level in almost three years, on June 27. A gain of 20 percent or more would put the metal back in a bull market.
Gold’s resurgence follows a rough ride this year. It slumped 4.8 percent in the first quarter of 2013 as the economic outlook improved and inflation remained subdued.For many years prior to that, Beads factory, like hedge funds, bought the metal as a way to protect their investments against rising prices and a slumping dollar. They feared that the Federal Reserve’s stimulus program could cause prices to rise. But inflation remained subdued and that reduced the need to buy gold. Also, signs in January that the dollar was strengthening diminished the appeal of owning gold.
Then in April, the bottom fell out. A proposal that Cyprus sell some of its gold reserves to support its banks rattled traders, prompting concern that other weak European economies might sell and flood the market.
Gold plunged by $140 an ounce, or 9 percent, on April 15 as investors unloaded their holdings. That was the biggest one-day decline in more than 30 years. While the price of gold is still down 17 percent this year, the metal is on the rise.One of the reasons people buy gold is that it offers an alternative to more traditional financial assets, says Mike McGlone, director of research at ETF Securities, a provider of commodity-based exchange-traded funds. When financial markets get jittery, investors often buy gold because it is considered one of the safest assets that can easily be converted to cash.
As the stock market soared this year, by as much as 20 percent, investors had less need to hold gold. That has changed in the past four weeks. The S&P 500 index has lost 4 percent since reaching an all-time high of 1,709.67 on Aug. 2. Traders are concerned about when and by how much the Fed will pare its stimulus, a major driver of the rally.
Strife in Egypt and Syria has also reminded investors that it’s a dangerous world out there: wars can spread and oil prices can spike, hurting economies and stock markets. Investors want to return a little insurance to their portfolios these days.
The Fed appears close to reducing its $85 billion in monthly bond purchases, and that has stirred up currency prices worldwide, particularly in emerging markets. Investors had previously borrowed in dollars at low rates and then invested in faster growing economies in Asia and Latin America.
When customers of Plowsharing Crafts bring home an intricately carved statue or a blanket bursting with color, they are not only making the world a prettier place, but a better place, as well.
“I think it makes the local community look at how they are consuming,” manager Kelly Rae Ramoser said. “They learn that how they spend their money really matters. In general, we really don’t think about how we spend our money and where it goes, and that is such an important part of what we do.
Since 1985, growing out of a missionary project through the St. Louis Mennonite Fellowship, Plowsharing Crafts has provided the St. Louis/Metro East area with handmade craft items from the Third World, providing income to skilled artisans around the world by marketing their products.
This “fair trade” strategy creates opportunities for socially marginalized producers, supports safe working conditions, combats the exploitation of child labor, and provides fair and equal pay for artisans, helping build trust and a sense of community that reaches across borders and oceans.
“The committee at our church was aware of the Fair Trade organization, Ten Thousand Villages, and were looking to do a project in the community,” executive director Rich Howard-Willms said. “This was very much a step of faith; I came in with no retail experience, just the interest and agate beads. We are very pleased with how it has grown through the years.”
“I got plugged into Plowsharing while I was in college,” she said. “My boyfriend and I visited every time we were in the Loop, and he bought his Christmas gifts there.
“I live in Edwardsville, so I am a part of this local community. I love the idea of getting my area involved in fair trade, and I really enjoy getting to know the faces that come in day after day. I am the only paid employee. Everyone else donates their time.”
Artisans who create the sandals, wall decorations, and more are paid 50 percent up front, allowing them funds for materials, time and to feed their families, and then the remainder is paid upon completion of the products.
“People often ask us how much of the money goes to the artisans,” Ramoser said. “We tell them not one penny, because they have already been paid and received the benefits. That makes us very different from the (corporate mindset). These artisans do not have to wait and rely on us to sell the product.
“We are very passionate about what we do. Our volunteers believe in what we are doing here as well and can talk about it to our customers, which is important. Education is also key to what we do.”
Plowsharing Crafts is in partnership with Ten Thousand Villages, the oldest and largest fair trade organization in North America, as well as other vendors such as SERRV, Global Crafts, Bright Hope International, UPAVIM, Mountcastle International, Venus Imports and Equal Exchange.

Frequency 8 Takes the Kandi Kids
If you've been in San Francisco for any significant amount of time, chances are good that you've at least heard of the Frequency 8 crew. Since the '90s, the outfit's done a lot to further the position of trance in the Bay Area via its lavish raves, record label, and now-shuttered Haight street record store. Not being too familiar, I enlisted the help of a good friend of mine who grew up in the genre. I asked him if he wanted to to go the party, and his response captured the theme of enthusiasm that began to course through the rest of the night: "F-8!? No way! I used to drive down from Sac just to go to their parties, that's what got me into dance music!"
We had a group of about five situated in the middle of a packed dancefloor at DNA Lounge. We stood out like sore thumbs, wearing drab clothes next to the clubland equivalent of a tropical aquarium. Everywhere there was eye-piercing color: neon blue, bright red tracing off the edge of a light glove, flashes from highlighter yellow glowsticks, and mounds of multi-colored "kandi" bracelets -- fog did little to obscure the rest. The music was melodically lush, but played at an arrhythmia-inducing speed. It was trance. The DJ, Thomas Datt, moved like an orchestra conductor, emulating the superstars of the late-'90s with carefully chosen poses that gave the illusion he was controlling every element from the patter of high-hats to the genre's tell-tale rushing drops. Below him, a flat-white geometric construction reflected psychedelic scenery of endless clouds, '80s vector graphic mountains, and other assorted digital landscapes. Two girls in white bikinis and feather boas walked by, their mouths a garble of confusing rainbows generated by LED-saturated pacifiers.
One of the most startling things about the night was how young everyone was. Going into this blind, I assumed that Frequency 8, being one of the older trance crews, would draw an gemstone beads. This wasn't the case; instead everyone present appeared to be between the ages of 18 and 21, with relatively few outliers -- those who were older blended in by virtue of the kandi kid subculture's fixation on pre-teen accoutrements. This had a nice fringe benefit in that none of the bars were ever busy, though I imagine that says more about the consensus choice of substance than anything else. Age aside, it was a very diverse crowd, with the aforementioned kandi kids mingling easily with a misfit assortment of anime otaku, unabashed Redditors, furries in full garb, and a troop of people clearly invested in totally losing their minds.
Trance as a musical genre, when listened to for long enough in a club setting, has a weird effect at high volume. It sucks you into its swirling melodies and ambient wafts of synthesizer. It's immersive in a way that's similar to techno, though the feeling is more dreamy. At the front of the room, a small group of partiers rested standing against the stage with their heads tucked into their arms. I felt my own consciousness drift away into the music, catching myself five or 10 minutes later almost dozing off to the monotonous ebb and flow of the rush. It was at that point that we decided to gather our wits and leave the main room for a while to visit "The Observation Deck," the party's second room dedicated to hardcore, gabber, and drum 'n' bass.
I'm not the most eloquent notetaker while out reviewing these parties. Looking back though, my one sentence about the upstairs room seems relevant: "worm of pure energy, drilling thru my ear." This was indeed a much more hardcore experience than the comparatively pleasant dream music of the main room. It was pure aggression, with a similar crowd hyping themselves up and pogoing to blasting hits of 180 BPM+ hardcore. The DJ, whose name I didn't catch, mixed these sounds on the fly in truly old-school fashion with the crustiest looking box of vinyl records I've seen in the wild. Hyper remixes of Skrillex's "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" mingled with more esoteric fare, but proved a huge hit with a dancefloor that rarely wavered throughout the night. Eventually the music switched, moving towards futuristic interpretations of drum 'n' bass with little bits of dubstep thrown in for good measure. The aggression was awesome, but even better was the earnest party spirit and unironic punk ethos that filled the air.
By the time we made it back to the main room, the tempo had caught up with the music upstairs. Now it was Scott Brown on the decks and he was working fast to cram in as many heavy-hitting hard-trance tracks as he could before the 2 a.m. cutoff. Booming hoover basses and near incomprehensible kick drum patterns flashed from the subwoofer in five-minute blurts before melting into gooey synth pads played beatlessly as interludes. With each track he pushed faster, playing a string of tracks that included Captain Tinrib vs Mars & Mystr?'s "Save the Rave," Art of Trance's "Madagascar," and Mars' "Pachelbel 8000." Throughout it all he wove in a repeating spoken word vocal that affirmed again and again, "You're rocking with the best!"
They got burned on their sensationalist claims that hydraulic fracturing caused flaming faucets. They were sunk by their own studies showing that fracking was responsible for groundwater contamination. They've sent in the Justice Department to harry the biggest names in the industry over so-called anti-competitive practices. Now the government's newest assault on the practice comes from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which is proposing new, stricter regulations on the sand that's used in the fracking process.
Fracking, which has been done for more than 60 years, is a process in which drillers pump large amounts of Wholesale beads, fluids, and chemicals deep into the ground under high pressure and cause the shale rock to crack. The fluids contain sand or ceramic beads called proppants that prop open the fissures and allow the gas and oil to flow more freely.
But as the practice has grown exponentially, environmental activists and regulators suggest that the sand itself presents a health hazard to workers much the way asbestos does. Silica isn't like beach sand, but rather is a much finer, purer material. Imagine clouds of dust billowing up when a saw cuts through concrete, and you get the idea of what they're suggesting workers are breathing in.
While the Obama administration estimates 700 lives a year can be saved by putting new rules in place, industry representatives say the current regulations already adequately protect workers because they reduce or completely eliminate the risk of breathing in the fine particulates. Moreover, the cost of the new regs would be huge. The new rules also apply to industries outside oil and gas, and the metal-casting industry alone says they will cost about $1.5 billion annually to implement.
Under the proposal, companies would have to cut in half the amount of silica exposure currently allowed for general industry and maritime workers, and by 80% in the construction industry. Part of the problem with the new rules, however, is there is a dearth of certified labs available that can measure the levels of silica dust OSHA wants to reduce them to, though the agency has magnanimously said it would be willing to delay the lab requirements for two years to allow the industry to catch up.

Meet 7 Women who redefine Independence
I still remember that post her accident and the subsequent treatment at AIIMS, Arunima tried to meet me several times, but I was travelling. The day I reached Jamshedpur, she called again and said she would come to meet me the next day. I didn’t take her seriously. How would she get the tickets so soon? But she reached. That was the day, I realised how focused she was.
When we met, she told me she wanted to climb Everest. I was stunned! Sometimes I still can’t believe it. I told her, by setting such a goal she had already climbed her first Everest.
I asked her to come for the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) outdoor leadership program. We tried to create a motivating, positive and supportive atmosphere for her. It didn’t happen overnight. In the beginning, the team held her hand and took her up and jewelry findings. Later we trained her with load, increasing it gradually. Then we taught her to walk on ice and finally took her to 13,000 feet to test her physiology on high altitudes. It took one year for her to prepare.
The journey wasn’t easy, but she converts every problem into an opportunity. If she found something difficult, she would want to do it again. Looking at her zeal and courage, we presented her details to our MD and sponsored her Everest climb. I also told the MD of the company we had tied up with in Khatmandu that he should not show her pity, but understand what she is made of and support her. She dragged herself physically, but did it.
Mom never lets people know of her worries. We grew up in a very protective environment. Only when I was around 10 years old, did it register that things were amiss. I learnt of my fathers’ addictions even later, around age 16. My sister and I didn’t see the rough side, but when you’re living at your maternal grandmother’s house, and your dad’s fine through the day (he used to drop us to school every morning), but you’re kept away from him in the evening, you know something is wrong.
Mom’s focus was on fending for the family and ensuring that we move up in life. Her day started at 4 am, so in a lot of ways our grandma mothered us. Mom started a business with jams and crystal beads wholesale. Later she put up a small kiosk selling tea, coffee and snacks at a marina in Chennai. Then came the first major turning point for her — getting a contract from the National Institute of Port Management. She had to be there full time, because footfalls ranged from hundreds to thousands.
Every day we saw her getting tougher and tougher. Realizing the kind of ordeal mom was going through for us, our bond with her grew very strong. Today, when I’ve joined the business and deal with skilled labour, I often ask her, ‘How did you handle these people?’ I guess her strength lies in her straightforwardness; she’ll tell you things to your face if she thinks something’s wrong. At the same time, she easily senses if you’re not fine and will act on it.
I was always interested in the food industry, but knowing the kind of struggle it requires, she didn’t want me to pursue it. Moreover, inspired by travel tales of the navy officers I met, I joined the navy, and worked for a Norwegian company. During the time I was away, my sister and she grew very close. She wouldn’t tell me she missed me, but managed to find a way to reach me even on the ship. I was the only person aboard to get a call every week. When my sister and her husband expired due to an accident, soon after their wedding, mom went completely out of line. She stopped going out for three to four years. It was difficult to see her that way, and watch twenty years of her hard work go unattended, so I decided to take it up. When I made mistakes, she advised and corrected me but didn’t resume work.
FICCI came to us at this point of time; the award was a complete game changer. A regular person just works to make a living, not to get media limelight, but the award made mom recognize her own achievement. Colleges invited her to speak on entrepreneurship. Seeing that so many people looked up to her, she realized she that shouldn't get bogged down. She became active again. Now, she doesn’t micro manage because she wants me to grow, but advices me and monitors things from time to time.
But Suzy fought every odd that life threw at her. People who stayed around her before the accident were now out of sight. Suzy didn’t lose hope. She focused on ‘what next.’ Confidence and optimism led her to the path of becoming one of the most successful stock traders in the Asian market, in 2005. Today, Suzy runs a very successful celebrity talk show, conducts motivational lectures for NASA scientists, is a TED speaker and runs an NGO (Shraddha) for spinally injured children. She has adopted two children whose parents died of spinal injury. Coming from a middle-class background, she may not have the luxuries of life but she has peace of mind.
'Is baar beta paida karna, sab theek hoga (this time, make sure you give birth to a son then everything will be sorted)’ is what my mother-in-law said when she first, heard I was pregnant with Pooja. God had already blessed me with a daughter so my family didn’t want a girl child again. When Pooja was born in 1985, no one visited us, in the hospital, for three days. I didn’t have a change of clothes for Pooja or for myself. Finally, on the tenth day, my husband came to take us home. But, clearly, we were not welcome. He would often tell me to get rid of Pooja; send her to an orphanage. I had to choose between my husband and Pooja. I chose my daughter. ‘This girl will make me proud,’ is what I told my husband while parting ways.
With Rs.82 in my pocket, I began a new life in Mumbai with Shubhra and Pooja. I would cook some food, leave two glasses of milk and lock them up at home before stepping out to office. In the need to give the best to my daughters I decided to leave them back in Mumbai with my mother and move to a better-paying job, in Goa. Often, Pooja would call, cry over the phone and ask me to come back to Mumbai. When I moved back to India after 4-5 years, I was happy to see Pooja grown up into a strong-minded and independent girl. I remember, in school, when her friends would ask about her father, she would simply say, ‘he’s away on the ship.’ Pooja has never questioned me about her father. She would share her feelings, her insecurities with Shubhra, who was an anchor to her.

The OCZ Vertex 4 was thoroughly disappointing in the random read tests, coming consistently bottom for all but the smallest tests. But it wiped the floor with all the others for the random write tests. Sadly for it, read speed is more important for home users.

GCAA final report links
The UAEs General Civil Aviation Authority has issued its final air
accident investigation report on the crash of the UPS cargo plane that
crashed on September 3, 2010, in the desert outside Dubai.On that tragic

Samsung's 840 EVO solid-state drive reviewed
Samsung is one of the biggest names in technology. The Korean giant
makes everything from vivid 4K televisions to powerful smartphones to
cutting-edge washing machineswith accompanying Android apps, of course.
You can't throw a rock in an electronics store without hitting at least
half a dozen Samsung products.Your odds of striking a PC equipped with a
Samsung SSD are pretty good, too. The company claims 60% of
SSD-equipped PCs shipped this year will have Samsung drives. Samsung's
SSDs are also popular components on their own. In the US, the firm says
it makes up 36% of the market for branded solid-state drives.
A lot of Samsung's recent sales have come from the 840 Series. Over 2.5 million of these entry-level drives have sold worldwide, and for good reason. The 840 Series offers solid performance at extremely affordable prices. It does have a weakness, though. The drive's TLC NAND costs less per gigabyte than the MLC flash typically used in consumer SSDs, but its write performance is somewhat compromised by the higher bit density.Samsung has attempted to address that shortcoming with its next-generation successor to the 840 Series. The 840 EVO features a faster controller, newer TLC NAND, and a dedicated write cache populated with speedier SLC flash. There's a second layer of caching that leans on system memory, too.
Despite these enhancements, the 840 EVO retains the budget-friendly pricing of its predecessor. We've been testing one pretty much around the clock for the past few days. It also has expertise in customizing multi-core processors and fabricating DRAM, allowing the firm to produce all the component parts of a modern SSD entirely within its own facilities.
Most of the Samsung silicon inside the 840 EVO is second-generation TLC NAND. These chips are fabbed on a 19-nm process, just a small step down from the 21-nm node used for the 840 Series' flash. The new NAND conforms to the same 400Mbps Toggle DDR 2.0 specification as the old chips.Perhaps to avoid the negative connotations associated with TLC memory, Samsung refers to the 840 EVO's NAND as three-bit MLC. That's technically correct: TLC flash has three bits per cell, one more than MLC memory and two more than the single-bit SLC stuff. The higher storage density makes TLC NAND cheaper to produce, since more gigabytes can be squeezed out of each wafer. However, it also reduces the NAND's write performance and endurance.
I explained the challenges associated with TLC NAND in our 840 Series review, so I'll just give you the Coles Notes here. Understanding the problem requires some knowledge of how flash memory works. NAND cells are written by causing electrons to tunnel into an insulated floating gate. The negative charge associated with these electrons defines the data in the cell, and the range of possible voltages is independent of the number of bits.

Although most of the 840 EVO's flash is configured with three bits per cell, a small slice of each die is addressed as single-bit SLC NAND. This portion of the flash is dedicated to TurboWrite, a buffering technology that caches host writes before transferring them to the drive's main storage. TurboWrite funnels all downstream traffic through the SLC cache. Writes only bypass TurboWrite if the buffer is full. When the drive is idle, cached writes are transferred out of the buffer and into the TLC NAND.
The size of the TurboWrite cache varies based on the 840 EVO's total capacity. The 120 and 250GB models have 3GB reserved for TurboWrite, while each higher-capacity variant adds another 3GB to the cache. According to Samsung, 3GB is enough to accelerate "everyday performance scenarios." Even the smallest TurboWrite cache is considerably larger than the 1GB buffer employed by SanDisk's Extreme II SSD. The Extreme II is the only other SSD we've seen with an SLC cache.
Due to the lower bit density of SLC NAND, the flash footprint of the TurboWrite cache is three times higher than the buffer's capacity. For example, the 250GB model's 3GB SLC cache consumes 9GB of TLC NAND. With the exception of the 120GB model, the TurboWrite cache monopolizes 3.5% of the drive's total flash capacity. The smallest member of the family devotes 7% of its flash to TurboWrite.
TurboWrite is responsible for the 840 EVO's slightly lower capacities (250GB instead of 256GB, for example). The 840 Series comes in similar sizes, but it doesn't have a fancy SLC cache. The older drive does, however, overprovision additional capacity to replace bad blocks caused by cell failures. Samsung says its initial TLC endurance estimates were conservative, and that the NAND is robust enough to repurpose the extra overprovisioned capacity for TurboWrite.

The Extreme II is the only other SSD we've seen with an SLC cache.
Due to the lower bit density of SLC NAND, the flash footprint of the TurboWrite cache is three times higher than the buffer's capacity. For example, the 250GB model's 3GB SLC cache consumes 9GB of TLC NAND. With the exception of the 120GB model, the TurboWrite cache monopolizes 3.5% of the drive's total flash capacity. The smallest member of the family devotes 7% of its flash to TurboWrite.
TurboWrite is responsible for the 840 EVO's slightly lower capacities (250GB instead of 256GB, for example). The 840 Series comes in similar sizes, but it doesn't have a fancy SLC cache. The older drive does, however, overprovision additional capacity to replace bad blocks caused by cell failures. The songs are a kind of Space-Noir, tales of cosmic revenge, peaking libidos, alienation and epic strangeness. It's a weird trip through the back alleys of a dark, retro-future, which not by coincidence very much resembles my own life. (laughs) The lyrics aren't fantasy really, rather a recounting of my musings on, observations of and general emotional reaction to my life and environment during a 1 week writing period in February of 2013. But I tend to use the vernacular and imagery of science fiction and surrealism to express myself and that's where these lyrics get trippy. There's also our cover version of Donovan's "Three Kingfishers" which I thought fit the mood of the album."

We had been doing smaller projects out of Phil's 'Studio 13' recording space and I really felt comfortable there so it was the natural choice on where to record the next full-scale Monster Magnet album. Phil and I grew up together and have a shared love of some very particular vintage music and styles. And everybody in the band played their asses off on this one."

According to the Professional Disc Golf Association the objective of the game is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of throws of the disc.
The sport, which has similar course layouts, scoring structure and concept as its sister sport which it is named, has seen increased interest over the last decade. While it was first invented in 1959, the sport reached its modern form in the 70s and has only seen widespread acceptance beginning around 2000, since which the number of registered players has more than doubled.
Colfaxs disc golf course was built as a nine-hole course in 1998 with funding from the Kiwanis Club, the city and other community organizations. Over the next several years it was expanded into a full 18-hole course, and one that would become known as one of the most challenging in the state.
We come out here because of the challenge. This course really gets our blood going and then well go play Newton or another course afterwards, said Kaleb Sharp, a Dallas Center resident who travels to Colfax to play regularly. The course feels like it is designed for a left-handed person with the way the holes bend and curve most courses are the opposite, so you have to adjust.
The course weaves over several acres of public land, letting players hike more than two miles of trails with constant elevation changes as they play the course. The fairways are often slimmer on the Colfax course than a disc golf player is used to. While some courses will have wide expanses of short-cropped grass, the Lewis Club Park course boasts many holes with a path no wider than 15 feet to the chagrin of many players.

Virtual and traditional storage environments
SSD will continue to coexist with HDD, either as separate or
converged HHDDs. Where, where and how they are used will also continue
to evolve. High IO (IOPS) or low latency activity will continue to move
to some form of nand flash SSD (PCM around the corner), while storage
capacity including some of which has been on tape stays on disk. Instead
of more HDD capacity in a server, it moves to a SAN or NAS or to a
cloud or service provider. This includes for backup/restore, BC, DR,
archive and online reference or what some call active archives.
The generic idea with SMR is to increase areal density (how many bits can be safely stored per square inch) of data placed on spinning disk platter media. Another evolving storage feature that ties into HDDs is Data Integrity Feature (DIF) that has a couple of different types. The advantage will be to cut the overhead of tracking all of those smaller sectors or file system extents and clusters. Today many HDDs support AF however by default may have 512-byte emulation mode enabled due to lack of operating system or other support.
Intelligent Power Management (IPM) is a collection of techniques that can be applied to vary the amount of energy consumed by a drive, controller or processor to do its work. These include in the case of a HDD slowing the spin rate of platters, however keep in mind that mass in motion tends to stay in motion. This means that HDDs once up and spinning do not need as much relative power as they function like a flywheel. Where their power draw comes in is during reading and write, in part to the movement of read/write heads, however also for running the processors and electronics that control the device. Another big power consumer is when drives spin up, thus if they can be kept moving, however at a lower rate, along with disabling energy used by read/write heads and their electronics, you can see a drop in power consumption. Btw, a current generation 3.5 4TB 6Gbs SATA HDD consumes about 6-7 watts of power while in active use, or less when in idle mode. Likewise a current generation high performance 2.5 1.2TB HDD consumes about 4.8 watts of energy, a far cry from the 12-16 plus watts of energy some use as HDD fud.

kidneys for an iPhone, Wang Jie, a resident of Hangzhou, capital of east
China's Zhejiang Province, found an easier way to get one of the

Sun introduced the scheme whereby an intelligent recycling platform registers the type of garbage a resident has and dispenses printed bar codes to stick to the bags of junk. Its an interesting story altogether. The 37-year-old Wilson Memorial High School graduate sort of stumbled into the business in 2002 when Wintergreen Resort management approached him with an idea. With untapped infrastructure at the ski slope, Stone said, there was an opportunity for expansion in the way of trail systems on the mountain.
Back then, the only place you could ride your bike on a site like that is if you went to a race, said Stone, who apprenticed for three years at Gravity Logic, a British Columbia-based world leader in mountain bike trail design, before he was given the opportunity. That was the only time resorts were running the chairlifts. People needed a place to ride their bikes. I got involved with Wintergreen and built some trails.
With three years of experience working with an industry leader, Stone determined there was a segment of the market he could capture for himself. He formed 402 Trails soon after his work with Wintergreen, tagging the companys name after the month and year it began April 2002.

In Bedouins, two figures gaze at you from beneath blue keffiyeh; where the sun strikes them, the headscarves are so brightly lit as to be indistinguishable from the sky. Some watercolorists, especially at the turn of the twentieth century, still did traditional British watercolor, which was purely transparent. Sargent, meanwhile, had no qualms about using opaque watercolors. Thats one aspect where hes really drawing on his work with oil: the buildup of dense, opaque colors. There was no one doing watercolor in quite this way at the time. There were people who were doing things that were more advanced in a modernist sensebut in terms of pushing the medium of watercolor?
